Timeless Time Capsule
The E38 BMW 7-series has had a lot of accomplishments and firsts. It was the first European car to incorporate GPS. The first car to feature curtain airbags. The first BMW to have a built-in TV. And the last 7-series to actually look good. Kidding. …unless?

I (and many more) consider the exterior design of the E38 to be nearly timeless. It’s clean, elegant and despite being 26 years old, still holds up nicely. It’s refreshingly clear of superfluous vents, excess ‘M’ badges and features a very proportional kidney grille.

Unfortunately finding a shining example of one these days is not always an easy task. There’s not much more expensive than a cheap German luxury car, and this old 7 is no exception. Numerous examples can be found for cheap, plagued with the symptoms of aging electronics, poorly maintained mechanicals and a lower level of care than a car of this stature deserves…but what if you could still buy one brand new?
This owner in Germany has exactly what you need. This 1997 740i, finished in what I’m guessing is Oxford Green Metallic (colour code 324!) has less than 1km on the odometer according to the ad. Having travelled a grueling 0.255km from new, the owner opted to preserve it in a bubble complete with air recirculation to keep everything as fresh as a piece of metal can be.
The seller claims it’s the only brand new E38 left in the world. We can’t prove him wrong. At the time of writing, this car has garnered a bid of nearly €53,000 which (also at the time of this writing) translates to roughly $82,000 CAD. Wunderbar!
